Continuing, we see that the focus is on softening the tonal strokes on the face to more fully define the light, medium and dark masses. Smudge until you get the desired result of keeping the darkest areas confined to the eye sockets as well as under the nose and under the mouth. You can see that for the first time, both eyes are beginning to be formed. Work on the midtone areas by blending under the hairline and alongside the contour of the cheek on the left side of the portrait painting. Keep the rest of the facial areas as being the lights. As you can see, three tonal areas of the face have just been defined simply and cleverly. Your tonal drawing continues still in... Step 8.
