Besides the sketch of the model's hair-do being adjusted, notice that the artist blended the shadows under her neck by making sure that the darkest part of her neck shadow remains directly under her head, that is, closest to her jaw line. But, the most time was spent in rendering four values of color depicted in her visible ear. In all the features, the eyes, the nose, the mouth and finally the visible ear, the pastellist spent a great deal of effort and energy in capturing each of them.
