With this step, the underpainting is made ready for the "overpainting" so to speak -- is made ready for the flesh colors. The tonal underpainting development is a skill worth developing. Practicing it helps train the eye to recognize value changes and helps to limit the tones to about four. With this you have just completed the last step of the tonal drawing.
